Minor Project Done!

So for the past 8 weeks I have been doing my Minor project, which I have finally finished this week. I am very happy with the final outcome. For my final piece I decided to create a piece called ' the intestine', it was all done with hand embroidery, it is to be worn as a neck piece what can be wrapped around the arm also.

Now that this is complete, I will have a few days off and then complete my dissertation and then to start my new project! which I am very excited about.  Keep checking for updates about it.

Anatomy of Nature

My new project is well under way, I have started development, my research has took my work in many directions, but I have covered things such as the similarities between nature and the human body, through the look of plants and organs in the human body.

I have started some sampling and dyeing for my final developments. I have been dong some natural dyes using everyday vegetables such as beetroot, pomegranates and onion skins. I also used some more rare herbs and such as Ladies Bedstraw and Golden Rod. I have found most of the samples have been quite successful. I want to try and dye with animals blood from the butchers as this is more of a human body relation. I have started some prototypes of designs which I have enjoyed, As I have started embroidering again which I haven't done for a long time. I will post up photos when I have them. But this is just one I completed over the summer. What does it look like to you? Its based around tree bark.

Dissertation research

I have just completed my dissertation for third year, as it is still the summer holidays so I still have time to do plenty of other work. I have found my dissertation so interesting to do, it has opened my mind to so many religions, as I have not been brought up to be religious, but that makes me more aware of all religions. Druidry has definitely caught my attention, and is something I might consider looking into more personally. My dissertation is about how nature is symbolic within religion through art and design. I have always been inspired by nature and everyone who knows me will know this. By doing this dissertation it has only inspired me more and made me realise even more how important nature is to the world.

I love that trees, plants and herbs can be used as medicine, I think this is such an important method of not only recycling but the pure force of nature and what it can do. Nature is so giving and we should give back.
Here are some pictures that I have found for my dissertation.

Video recording!

I have bleaching some bones for my project, and I thought i would take a video as it was interesting how the bones reacted when put into pure bleach. Was interesting to watch the different liquids move. I have been to the life centre to look at the bones and fossils and came across this amazing dinosaur robot. I will be starting a you tube channel of all the interesting things I find, keep checking for more.

 This is the bleaching bones.

New Project!

So I have started my Minor Project over the summer, I have a bit of primary research that I have drawn from, I am half way through a A3 sketchbook full of drawing and articles I have found. I have started a reflective diary, an ideas book (for Designs) and a artist and market research book. I have a good start on my concept which is.... 'The anatomy of the Nature and the Human Body'.

Here is some work and pictures I have collected  and completed so far.

This is some photoshop work I did on a picture I took of an Ox's heart.

I bought some meat from the market and I decided to bleach the bones and then boil them , I got all the flesh of and I am happy with the result, I am going to draw from them and then possibly create something with them.. keep checking to find out what!

Window Display complete.

I have recently been helping design a window display in Middlesborough within the Emporium shop, this holds a number of small businesses. They asked us if we could create something that would be better than what it was, as it wasn't attractive and looked a bit like a charity shop. We chose a picnic theme, although it was hard to find things within our £30 budget ( which we went over) I think we did well considering it was the first time we had done a window display and the small budget was hard to work with.

This was before we did anything, It was very full and too much to look at and those dreadful curtains!
